Look After Birds With A Solar Powered Birdbath Heater
Filed Under Home & Family |
Lots of people enjoy birds, and nothing could be nicer than watching birds come right outside your window. In the summer this is fairly easy by making some water available to them. However birds also need water during the winter months, but if you put a birdbath outside then it will just get frozen. You certainly don?t want to pay money to heat your birdbath with electricity, if only there was a way to do it for free.
Well believe it or not there is! A solar powered birdbath heater may be just the thing that you?re looking for. This will warm the water up so that it doesn?t freeze over, this will invite more wildlife to your garden no matter what the weather is like outside.
Many people add a birdbath mainly for decorative purposes rather than to please the birds. However it does serve a function, and can work well if you use a solar powered heater. You can also buy these systems that have lights attached to highlight the design feature. These lights are also powered from sunlight which was stored during the day, this means that there is no extra cost associated with these lights.
If you have a very large birdbath then you could consider using small fountains and a solar heater to stop the water freezing. This will also make an attractive feature in your garden. This will help to improve the look of your garden all year round.
Birds Bathing In The Shade Is No Problem
Many solar panels have to be placed in direct sunlight in order to collect enough sunlight to charge the batteries significantly. This can be a bit of a pain as many solar powered bird baths have solar panels built into the actual bird bath, this may mean that you have to place the whole bird bath in a sunny location. This may not look as good as positioning it under a tree.
You can buy a solar heater birdbath which has separate solar panels, you can put the birdbath wherever you want it and then put the panels in direct sunlight. This enables you to be much more flexible with your design. You should note however if you choose to do this you must also connect the two units together with a small wire.
It might be possible to attach the solar panel onto a tree which is close to the birdbath. However you will need at least four hours of sunlight hitting the panels to get enough charge for most units. If you are using a fountain or lighting then you may require a larger array of solar panels so it?s worth checking it out with a professional.
