This Yahoo Ambassador, is very impressed with the improvements Yahoo has made with their pay per click search marketing program. Yahoo associates are much more helpful then they used to be. They now seem to have their clients best interest at heart. YSM has taken many of the best parts of the Google adwords program and in many cases made them simpler to use.

If you who don’t know, YSM (Yahoo Search Marketing) is the pay per click service offered by Yahoo. Formerly known as Overture, there’s a search network as well as a content network. Advertising in the search network is easy. You pick the keywords for the products or the services you provide. You write the ad copy to promote your products and services. You determine the maximun amount you want to pay each time your ad is clicked on.

When a potential customer types one of your keywords in the Yahoo search query box you advertising link appears. Your quality index determines where your links are displayed in the search results. The quality index is made up of the advertiser’s bid price and ad click-through rate. Pay only when your ad is clicked on.

With over 2 billion searches per month on Yahoo it can be an extremely powerful advertising tool. Their new geo-targeting feature leaves a little to be desired . It’s not as functional as it could be. Yahoo uses what it calls DMA zones. Although effective it some cases, it forces some smaller clients to purchase too much wasted traffic. In my opinion the DMA zones are too wide. Hopefully they’ll fix this soon.

Yahoo Search Marketing analytics has greatly improved. You can now view real-time reports detailing the number of clicks you’re getting so you always know how well your ads are performing.

Using the updated tools Yahoo Search Marketing provides, it’s become an Internet advertiser’s secret weapon. By serving up the exact ads that are most relevant to the desires of prospects conducting the search Yahoo search marketing has greatly improved.
