holiday homes in crete
Filed Under Travel & Leisure |
Rather than residing at one of the many hotels instead why not consider booking one of the many holiday villas in Crete. There are many benefits to be had from staying in such accommodation the main one being that you can decide which time you get up at and when you go out.
A great thing about renting such property is that in some cases you feel as if you are in a home away from home. Plus it offers you the chance to sample what the locals have been trying to hide from tourists for many years. It also gives you the chance to explore this island and what it has to offer at a pace that suits you.
When staying on Crete there are numerous activities (water sports included) that one can avail of. Plus if you would like to learn, more about the islands history there are plenty of museums and archaeological sites that one can visit. In many cases access to these are free, although a few do require you to pay an admission fee (but not many).
If you are going to visit any of these museums or sites it is important to note that they are not open throughout the week. There are for example some that are only open a few hours throughout the day and are closed over the weekends and on Bank holidays. One such museum is the Historical Archives of Crete in the town of Chania. This is open from only 08.00 to 13.00 Monday through to Friday.
But as well as all the museums and archaeological sites that one can visit on this island there are things for those who are a little more adventurous. If you want, why not take time out of your holiday and enjoy one of the Pirate Ship Tours, which take you to secluded beaches at Marathi or Bali.
As you leave port along the way, the trips have stopovers where you can play games or just take some photographs of the stunning scenery that you see. The games are organized by the crews of the two ships (Barbarossa and Captain Hook) and all dress up in full pirate regalia.
However, if this all seems a bit too much then why not book yourself a trip on one of the Dolphin Tours instead. These only take place throughout the summer months and leave from Rethymno Harbour and these last 2 or 3 hours. The 3-hour trip also provides you with the chance to sample some of the locally caught fish with a stop over at the village of Panormo.
Yes staying in a hotel can give you all the luxury that you could ever want. But staying in villas in Crete offers you the chance to sample what life is really like for those who live on the island throughout the year. Also it provides you with freedom to choose what you do and when during the time that you stay there.
