Electrician Apprentices - Getting Started
Filed Under Business |
Most companies set working experience as a requirement for their electrician positions. As such, if you are a fresh graduate school, you may find yourself in a bit of trouble. Not to worry though, because apprenticeship programs have actually been setup to address this particular concern.
Before applying for an apprenticeship, you have to start with a good education. To avoid the trap of graduating from an electrician school only to end up becoming under-qualified for most of the electrician positions available, you must pick the right electrician school to go to from the beginning. You have the option of training from an online course, go to a government-sponsored school, or undergo a military training program.
Once you’ve picked the electrician school that best suits you, you now have to pick your specialization. If you have no idea what to pick, you’ll quickly figure it out once you go through your classes. There are some subjects you’ll excel at, and some you won’t, and choosing the specialization that makes full use of your skill is a step in the right direction. If the school you’ve chosen doesn’t have the specialization you want, you can go to other schools once you’ve been certified.
Once everything is said and done, you’re back to the original scenario established above; before applying for any jobs, it’s prudent to look for a place where you can work as an apprentice. Choosing a place that is related to your specialization is obvious, but what’s not so obvious is that your apprenticeship can help you learn the duties and habits of an effective electrician more than the knowledge of your job’s technical aspects can.
Electricians are often referred to as domestic or installation electricians. As a qualified electrician you would fit, test and repair the circuits and wiring found in homes and businesses. Your work might range from fitting a bathroom shower circuit in a customer’s home to laying the equipment cabling in a major new office development.
It’s not hard to find a company to have your apprenticeship because of the wide availability of such places. In fact, the Internet has exhaustive listings of such organizations. The yellow pages and classifieds should also be of great help to you. The basic idea of apprenticeship is that it prepares you for your future job; as an added bonus, its usually the company where you’re training that eventually hires you as their employee, depending on your performance.
