A corset dress is worn as a fetish clothing or costume. Made of latex, rubber, or leather, the dress is used to emphasize the body. Depending on the cut, it may flaunt breasts. Corset dresses are usually laced dresses that look like corsets with skirts that reach the knees or feet, or with the corset extending down the legs. They can be worn outdoors to parties and other events.

It is also called hobble corsets because it extends the length of the dress right down to the toes in a restrictive fashion. As such, women who wear these dresses may walk in a strange, limping manner, because their legs and impeded and movement is limited. It is also hard to sit down when wearing any kind of corset dresses.

A corset dress is usually very expensive and has to be custom-made because it has fallen out of fashion a long time ago. Ergo, it’s nowadays seen more of a fashion statement because of the effect it has in shaping the body, giving its wearer a “seductive temptress” look. Genuine corsets are usually made by a corset maker and should ideally be fitted especially for the individual wearer.

Gothic people, masochists in particular, usually wear corsets because the boning of the corset is rigid and painful. They are actually after the rich sensations of torture and anguish that wearing a corset brings about.

Take note that when a corset is worn for a long period, it soon becomes a bondage corset; that is, when it’s worn as often as underwear such that a woman does about anything in a corset dress, the continuously excruciating act can be construed as bondage.

Nowadays, corset dress can either maximize or minimize the breast, giving out a svelte or curvy figure. Some corset dresses even have separate tops and skirts, while others have built-in corsets to support the upper midriff only.
