Long Beach with a Latino Accent, The Museum of Latin American Art
Filed Under Travel & Leisure |
Most vacationers like a getaway that offers a certain variety in ethnicity, usually in the food simply because there is generally not another option for diversity in ethnicity. This is not the case in Long Beach California. Due to the extreme population of this popular vacation spot, there is a massive collection of ethnic groups. The result of this has become a favorite attraction for visitors, the Museum of Latin American Art. This is not your typical museum, but one with a Latin slant that will leave you satisfied that your muse has been fulfilled.
It is the Museums primary goal to show the American citizenship the artistic impact that the culmination of the Latino and American heritage can make in the artistic realm when the cultures are combined into one form of art. Within this establishment you will find a vast collection of extremely original art, unlike any you have ever had the honor of partaking. It is a rare treat to see two different artistic angles mixed into one. The result really is more than one expects. The art here is contemporary in nature, only serving to add to the originality.
To give you an idea of what you will find in this prestigious museum, in 2007 the Unbroken Ties exhibit was revealed there. Latin American citizens surrounded this exhibition around the maintenance of Cuban values and beliefs. Some truly inspirational art is in this exhibit, such as paintings, photographs, sculptures and even videos.
As far as permanent exhibits go, there are many wonderful pieces here, collected over a long period of time and created over an even larger time span. One can truly see the evolution of the artists hand and inspiration over the years when going from an ancient art piece to the contemporary works. The collection still grows daily as new artists come and go and new works are acquired. Along the walls in the many hallways of the museum you will find a wide variety of culturally blended works. Every form of artwork imaginable is to be found here, such as paintings, sculpture, and sketch art.
A select few of the more widely known Latin American artists whose work is housed here are David Alfaro Siquieros, Antonio Sequi, Roberto Matta, Joaquin Garcia, Rufino Tamayo, Arnold Belkin, Jose Cuevas, and Edgar Negret. This is just the beginning of the selection. Hundreds of highly talented and imaginative artists works are stored here, for your viewing pleasure.
In every art museum in America, you will find the works of famed American artists. Likewise, in all Latino Nations, you can see the workings of renowned Latino artists. However, only in Long Beach California will you find the culmination of the two cultures into one, primarily. On you next Long Beach California, make sure to place the Long Beach Museum of Latin American Art high on the list of activities.
