You run more risk of being infected if you have more than one sexual partner, when you do not practice safe sex by using condoms or when your partner is an intravenous drug user and also has a number of sexual partners.

STDs can affect men and women as well, irrespective of their age. They can be contacted even if there are no symptoms. Actually symptoms may lack in the case of women. Besides their evolution is more dangerous in the case of women because it can provoke inflamatory pelvic disease which can sometimes lead to infertility.
