Ready For Love But Not For STD - Know More About It
Filed Under Health & Fitness |
At one time or another in our life, we could get sick, either because of your own or others carelessness; we can catch anything from cold, flu, measles or even STD. Sexually Transmitted Disease or STD, unlike the ones mentioned earlier, is caused by our own disregard for safe sex and more…
Initially the expression “sexual disease” used to mean both syphilitic and gonorrhealinfections, considered a single disease. In time, scientists have discovered that they are two different diseases and they have discovered as well other affections (more than 20) which can be transmitted sexually.
In STD, pathogens are transferred by being in direct contact with the infected part or fluids of the body such as genital fluids, saliva, and blood. STD is an infection passed on through any sexual act (vaginal, oral or anal) which causes one to come in contact with the infected genital area.
STDS are transferred specifically through sexual contact and hardly ever by superficial contacts with the diseased area or objects or from mother to foetus. Indications of the disease normally manifest generally within the genital area but could also appear in other parts of the body like the mouth, neck and eyes.
There are two broad categories of Major STDS: -syphilis -gonorrhoea
Minor STDS, such as: -vaginal herpes -venereal vegetations -scab -some forms of viral hepatitis
Today, HIV and syphilis are considered pandemic and its spread has grown to frightening proportions. Some of the disease’s indications manifest in the genital area, such as extraordinary discharges in the vagina and the penis, burning sensation, pain during sex and urination. Absence of these symptoms does not negate the possibility of having the infection as in most cases, noticeable symptoms do not become evident until such time that one goes for treatment or symptoms become recurring.
Undergoing an exhaustive medical examination to achieve a correct diagnosis is the primary step to take in treating STD. The treatments should not be based on past medical experiences, because there will be a great probability for error and the right treatment and procedures would not be administered or delayed.
You can see your family doctor first, who could recommend you to a specialist for a more thorough examination. You might need more tests and the consequential treatments. Treatments and medicines prescribed should be completed even if the symptoms are no longer present. Sexual activities could be resumed three days after discontinuance of the treatment per doctor’s recommendations.
You run more risk of being infected if you have more than one sexual partner, when you do not practice safe sex by using condoms or when your partner is an intravenous drug user and also has a number of sexual partners.
STDs can affect men and women as well, irrespective of their age. They can be contacted even if there are no symptoms. Actually symptoms may lack in the case of women. Besides their evolution is more dangerous in the case of women because it can provoke inflamatory pelvic disease which can sometimes lead to infertility.
