According to certain sources from Assyria, dating back to the 7th century BC, Nicosia was at one time a city called Ledra. In about 300 BC, Lefkos, the son of Egyptian King Ptolemy Soter I, rebuilt it and his name is immortalised in the modern Turkish name Lefkosa. The more recent Frankish name of Nicosia is considered to have appeared later on in the 12th century.

These include elements like the exotic weather, the warm climate, the continental climatic features, the traditions, the culture, the history, all fused together in a subtle manner so as to create a special, unique place. It had simply seen enough of the earthquakes, other natural catastrophies and also raids from Arab pirates.

Take for example the town of Kyrenia, founded in the 10th century BC by Achaean settlers. Kyrenia was indeed for many centuries one of the kingdoms of Cyprus, which counted ten in total. In the 7th century it was then further developed and fortified by the Byzantines who built the first castle. Under the Ottoman Empire, Kyrenia was still only a minor port. But it was under the British that the well-known harbour and quay were built. A totally attractive, beautiful and leisurely air lends itself to this town, ideal as a place for relaxing captains, officers and their families while on leave. All in all, quite a delightful town and wonderful tourist attraction.

Hence, northern Cyprus is one of the most unique and popular locations in the Mediterranean, and due to its unique characteristics there has come about a tendency that many people have of choosing this country as their favorite travel destination and tourist attraction.

So taken as a whole, we may consider northern Cyprus to be indeed one of the most popular travel destinations and investor attractions in the Mediterranean.
