Best Ways To Treat Genital Warts
Filed Under Disease & Illness |
A worrying aspect of sexual health in recent years is genital warts which can grow in and around male and female sex organs; these can form into ugly groups that can even affect the anal area. They are the result of one of the forms of human papilloma virus or abbreviated to HPV that are transmitted sexually, even orally and are actually a virus. This is one particular instance where using a condom will not always prevent the genital warts; women can be infected and be unaware of the situation for a long time making them easy to transmit to others.
What makes it worse is they can lie dormant for years at a time and it may not be possible to know who infected you in the first place. This means the person who was infected starts infecting others as well. There are more than hundred HPV virus types but only the type HPV6 causes ano-genital warts. Although outer warts can be easily seen, women who develop them inside their genitalia may not be seen until a doctor examines the site.
Women may display some additional discharge as genital warts may cause the area around them to be moister than other areas and it is this condition which promotes their growth. To remove them the most popular method of wart removal is to apply liquid nitrogen to the infected area; which has very low temperature and will kill the infected skin and tissues. This is carried out by doctors because liquid nitrogen is not generally available to the general population but the process is not a very painful procedure and whether liquid nitrogen is used depends upon the location.
Two further options are available to doctors, the traditional cauterizing the wart or the more modern but equally efficient laser process. You cannot permanently remove them as they often return and all methods are reliant on the location in the first place. One treatment that is relatively successful at removing genital warts is imiquimod as it helps fight the virus but new ones can still appear while it is being administered.
Unfortunately imiquimod cannot always be used and in particular it is not to be administered when a woman is pregnant; it also has restrictions on it’s use inside the vagina and on the genitals or when the skin around the area is inflamed. Like all medications, imiquimod has side effects and if these are experienced it should be stopped immediately but this is worth discussing with your doctor prior to using it.
