When it comes to 3M adhesive tapes there are a number of different types one can choose from. Each one of which has been developed and designed for a specific task and will perform reliably every time that they are used, no matter what situation they are to be used in. As you will soon discover there is going to be an adhesive tape from 3M which will meet your own particular requirements perfectly.

3M has now gained more than 50 years experience in relation to the development of all forms of adhesive technology and one of the most well recognized producers of adhesive tapes today. Whatever tape they produce they are designed for use in a number of different ways. Some are designed for helping to bond items together, other for masking and others to protect or shield. Then there are those which are used as a sealant, for damping or splicing and of course you have their more traditional tapes which adhere one thing to another.

Below we take a look at some of the types of adhesive tapes that this company now produces and which they have developed themselves. As well as being very adhesive some of the tapes developed are able to cope with extreme changes in temperatures.

1. VHB Tape - Is extremely reliable and use for bonding metals, plastics and glass to each other. Using this eliminates one having to carry out any drilling or having unsightly fasteners protruding from the item that is being joined together.

2. Adhesive Transfer Tape - These are pressure sensitive and have adhesive on both sides as does the VHB tape. However this tape has a liner on one side of the adhesive to protect whilst you apply the other side to the first surface. This is a tape that can be used with many light weight materials and is ideal for paper and plastic products.

3. Specialty Masking Tape - This 3M adhesive tape has been designed for use with circuit boards, also for use in photographic processes and when using a chemical bath. The tape is made up of components which ensure that it adheres to any surface that it may come into contact with and is not likely to be affected by any metals or chemicals that it comes into contact with also.

4. Metal Foil Tape - This adhesive tape from 3M comes either as aluminum, reinforced aluminum or lead backed. But although they do have metal on their surface they are still soft and very pliable and come with a silicone adhesive. It is this silicone adhesive which allows them to be used at extremely high temperatures and still not lose any of their adhesive qualities.

The 3M adhesive tapes that we have mentioned above are not only easy to use but are also readily available both online and at your local DIY or Hardware Store. However, to ensure that they stick to the surfaces properly it is advisable that you make sure the surface is completely clean. Therefore it is a good idea to wipe the surface of the item with warm water and mild detergent to remove any build up of grease, dust or debris on it. Then allow the surface to dry fully before you actually apply the adhesive tape to it.
